The Boy's Bridge Share-A-Gift Project Heralds In The Christmas Season With Gifts For A Record Number Of Beneficiaries This Year

Singapore’s largest Christmas charity project returns to celebrate Christmas with,
and bring festive cheer to a record-breaking 40,691 beneficiaries this year

Singapore, 6 November 2013 – The Boys’ Brigade Share-a-Gift (BBSG) project, one of Singapore’s most anticipated and highly-profiled Christmas charity projects has returned to warm up the heartlands with love and care. This year, it isset to usher in the year-end festive season and brighten up the lives of even more people than before. BBSG announced today that it aims to reach out to a whopping 40,691 beneficiaries. With this, the project will be at its largest scale to date and BBSG is looking towards the generous support of the public to help achieve its target.

BBSG 2013 aims to fulfil the wishes of a total of 40,691beneficiaries:

Government-fundedComCare programmes 7,744
Voluntary Welfare Organisations (VWOs) 24,812
Children 2,047
Elderly 4,539
Special Needs 862
Families 687

Ardent public support instrumental to BBSG’s success

The steadfast support from corporations and individuals alike has been a key driving force behind the continual success of BBSG. Their goodwill donations year after year have enabled The Boy’s Brigade to achieve its aim of fulfilling the wishes of, and bringing festive cheer to, the less fortunate.

Noteworthy of mention is Prudential Singapore, whose dedication to the project has seen it returning as this year’s Presenting Sponsor for the fifth year running. Its remarkable contribution of $100,000 will be invaluable in the financing of various operational, logistical and miscellaneous expenses needed for the project’s success.

Further, in keeping with BBSG’s hallmark feature of encouraging “actions” instead of purely financial giving, Prudential Singapore will work closely with The Boys’ Brigade to invite the public to gift their time to this meaningful project. Prudential Singapore’s management, staff and members of the agency force will also be adopting wishes as well as volunteering their time to pack gift hampers and deliver them to the beneficiaries.

“Prudential Singapore once again looks forward to being actively involved in the activities around the Boys Brigade Share-A-Gift project this year. Our participation will include gathering our staff and agency force to participate in the packing and delivery of the gift hampers, and also fulfilling beneficiaries' wishes. We are honoured that we can contribute and be a part of this worthwhile cause and we would like to encourage more people to join us in this experience," said Tomas Urbanec, Chief Executive Officer of Prudential Singapore.

BBSG 2013 is also proud to have on board NTUC FairPrice Co-operative Limited, whose desire to spread festive cheer to the less privileged has remained strong all these years. This year, it returns again as BBSG’s official online and collection partner in 12 FairPrice outlets. Other cash donors and sponsors include Credit Suisse, Keppel Care Foundation, Lee Foundation and Tan Chin Tuan Foundation.

Celebrating Christmas early

Christmas arrived early for some 30 beneficiaries of REACH Family Service Centre (FSC) and Bishan Home for the Intellectually Disabled, as they celebrated the joyous festival at the media conference of the project today. These beneficiaries had their specific wished fulfilled in advance by BBSG and Prudential Singapore (refer to Annex A for the write-up on five of the beneficiaries). Mr Lui Chong Chee, Chairman of BBSG 2013 said, “BBSG believes that everyone should be able to enjoy this joyful time of the year and this is why we have striven to bring the festive cheer to as many people as possible these past 25 years. This year, we have seen a substantial increase in our target number of beneficiaries. While we are concerned that we will not be able to reach out to all of them, we hold firm to the belief that the outpour of support from Singaporeans will help us surmount this challenge. Christmas is not as much about opening our presents as it is about opening our hearts. We hope that even more people will join us in our endeavour to bring smiles to the faces of the less privileged, and make this year-end season a memorable one for them.”

Public Involvement in BBSG 2013

BBSG 2013 will take place between 20 November 2013 and 18 December 2013. This year, the public can join in the fun in the following ways:

  • Adopting wishes and donating gifts to the beneficiaries; and
  • Delivering the gifts to the beneficiaries

The project welcomes all who wish to put a smile on someone else’s face and invites contributions for general food and household wishes such as rice, oil, sugar, biscuits, cereals, powdered milk, canned food, instant noodles, soap, toothbrushes and diapers (children and adult). Those who wish to share a gift can place them in any of the project’s 13 gift boxes island-wide. The boxes will commence operations from 20 November, from 11am to 9pm daily.

People who wish to fulfil specific wishes can adopt a specific wish from any of the three Boys’ Brigade Share-A-Gift Specific Wish Trees in Singapore.
