International swimming sensations to grace the inaugural Prudential Singapore Swim Stars

Commonwealth Games gold medalists coming to Singapore

Singapore, 8 August 2014 - Spectators are in for a treat as Sports Swim Organisation today confirmed that several gold medalists from the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow will be heading to Singapore for the inaugural Prudential Singapore Swim Stars to be held September 5 - 7.

Sports Swim Organisation received a boost today with one of Singapore’s leading life insurance companies, Prudential Singapore, committing to the event as Title Sponsor. The sponsorship enables Sports Swim Organisation to add to the stellar cast of invited swimmers, and Prudential is enhancing the event by involving Singapore’s kids and adults via the Prudential Swim Stars Kids Clinic & Relay Swim Off and the Prudential Swim Stars Open Water Swim. These fringe events will see the swim stars conducting swim clinics at selected schools around the island before culminating in a relay swim-off featuring both the Swim Stars and their charges at the OCBC Aquatic Centre.

“The Prudential Singapore Swim Stars will bring people together through a spectacular display of sporting excellence with world-class swimming champions in Singapore, and also gives an opportunity to kids and adults alike to participate and learn from the best. This event aligns with our commitment to inspire and encourage healthy, active lifestyles in Singapore,” said Tomas Urbanec, Chief Executive Officer of Prudential Singapore.

The three-day swim festival features some of the world’s best swimmers and starts off with a first-of-its kind competition on September 5 at the spectacular new venue, the OCBC Aquatic Center, in Singapore.

Fresh from winning individual gold medals in Glasgow, rising stars Ben Proud (ENG) and Ross Murdoch (SCO) will be competing in the 50m Freestyle and 100m Breaststroke respectively, and remind the world again of their extraordinary talent. Murdoch also rewrote the Games record in his gold medal swim in the 200m Breaststroke. Other young British stars to join the line-up include; 19-year-old Adam Peaty (ENG), who will undoubtedly give Murdoch, and all other 100m Breaststroke finalists confirmed thus far, a run for their money; Georgia Davies (WAL), who will take to the pool in Singapore for the 100m Backstroke; and Sophie Taylor (ENG), yet another teenager who’s made the swimming world sit up and take notice with her gold medal swim in the 100m Breaststroke. Veteran, Francesca Halsall (ENG), who set two Games records in Glasgow completes the list of British stars for the Singapore Swim Stars. Halsall will compete in the 50 and 100m Freestyle in Singapore.

The Australian swim team showed they are back to their winning best with several gold medals earned at the Commonwealth Games. Emily Seebohm, Leiston Pickett and James Magnussen are among the Australian stars heading to Singapore after their recent efforts in Glasgow. Seebohm will compete in the 100m Backstroke, Pickett in the 100m Breaststroke, and Magnussen in the 50m and 100m Freestyle when they come to Singapore in just under a month.

“The calibre of swimmers we have is astounding. Never before have we seen so many gold medalists in the same pool in Singapore. This is really encouraging and validates our objectives in the first place – to create a new swimming event that will attract some of the brightest swim stars in the world.

We are very grateful for the partnership with Prudential. They have been incredibly supportive of our event from Day 1 of our discussions and were also keen to work with us to reach out to the local community via our swim clinics and other initiatives,” said Mr Stephan Caron, two-time Olympic Medalist and Co-founder, Sports Swim Organisation.

Other sponsors confirmed for this star-studded event include Speedo, Coca- Cola, Marina Bay Sands, Über, Zenith, and Sport SG as Supporter in Sports Promotion.

Tickets to the Singapore Swim Stars start from $30 and are available at Ticket can also be purchased in person at Singpost outlets and at the Box Office at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
